From the National Review:
“For Barack Obama, hope can triumph over anything, except for open trade with a neighboring country with an economy 1/20th the size of ours. Then, all is despair.”
How did this political “newbie” win the Democratic nomination? Somebody PLEASE explain this one to me. By the way… I love the irony of Obama’s entire political campaign: hope IN hope… not in hope’s ability to change anything…

I think it became open season on the White House after George Dubya stole the election from Al Gore, Then preceded to ruin the country…we have nowhere to go but up son.
And although I don’t agree with all of his ideas, I must say I will be proud to be an American the day this country elects a black man for president. Bout damn time.
I know everyone is all like, don’t just vote for him cause he’s black-to which I say whatever…I’ll vote for whoever I want for whatever reason I want. And thats just about a good a reason as any.
I’m done with my brief so now we can argue more, after I take a nap.
Glad to hear your done with the paper… I’m so excited about arguing with you again!
Yup. Our country is ruined… Soup line America… (*ignorance on display*)
you know… you could’ve just laughed along with me at the irony of Lowry’s statement… which is a top notch piece of political humor–by anyone’s estimate– but no… you’ve got to jump RIGHT to the RACE issue.
Why should I waste my time arguing with you if your posts consist of bush hatred and race obsession?
Explain to me why I should waste my time responding to this nonsense… please…
Oh just relax, bush hatred and race obsession? that comment is nonsense.
yeah I could have laughed along with you, but you see, unlike you I don’t adhere much to the “group think” mentality-I prefer to think for myself and express my own thoughts.
White folks never worry about race anyway, I guess because they don’t have to.
And don’t even be trying to call me a rascist I have friends of all ethnic variaties and persuasions.
To me, if someone says that voting for a guy because he is black is “just about a good a reason as any” that is a race-based statement. If race wasn’t a consideration, then statement might be something more along the lines of “I’m not voting for him because he’s black, but because he’s right.”
Only one person that I know who supports Obama has been able to give me one thing he’s actually accomplished in the Senate. Moreover, only that same one person was able to tell me what they like about Obama other than his charisma and charm.

Yours Truly,
Publius
I didn’t try calling you a racist… I don’t know what the hell you’re talking about. I’m not the one who brought race up.
I’m happy you are so self-expressive… if you were as funny as Lowry… YOU might just get a post on my blog… but …. you’re not.
and… please stop stereotyping white people… i swear…
Guh? didn’t you say I was obsessed with race…”race obsession?” – isn’t that the same thing as being rascist?
And what makes you think I’m trying to be funny so as to amuse you? I’m not a circus monkey like Lowry. I am crossing my fingers and wishing upon a wishing star though, that one day I might get a post on your precious blog. Then I will know I have made it into the big time and it was not all in vain.
I’ll stereotype whoever I want to stereotype and I will vote for Obama because he’s black if I want to.
Publius, I don’t know who you are, but I’m pretty sure your real name isn’t Publius.
I don’t think it’s the same thing…. I don’t think it’s a GOOD thing, either… but I think there are big differences.
Hey Joel where’s your proof that Obama hates America?
I never said he did hate America… (his wife might…) but I don’t need to prove something I never stipulated.
I beg to differ, you didn’t advise Marty to read a ridiculous article on Obama’s “women” and how he hates America, saying that the article had merits? The crux of the article was to slander Obama and to infer that he along with his mother, his wife, his dog and his middle name, hates America?
His wife “might”…how does one come to this conclusion? Totally subjective opinion that amounts to and means nothing…the sad thing is that people pick up and run with that type of trash. More ridiculousness in the wacky world of politics.
Whatever dude.
“His wife “might”…how does one come to this conclusion? Totally subjective opinion that amounts to and means nothing[.]”
Michelle Obama said, “For the first time in my adult life, I am proud of my country.” While she might not “hate” America, she certainly hasn’t been proud to be an American until her husband got a shot to be President.
I just pointed Marty in the direction of an article relevant to his post. I didn’t ever say I agreed with the article… I just was helping Marty out! COMMON! loosen up!
I’m with Publius on this one (whoever you are) …I just said his wife MIGHT hate the country considering that she said she was “ashamed” of it (besides… it was kinda toungue-in-cheek). I agree I’m taking small liberties in saying that… but it’s not like I’m pulling this stuff out of thin air… I’m just quoting her.
You got to be joking me the both of you!!
I always say actions speak louder than words…
If you are basing (loosely, tongue in cheek or otherwise) who might or might not ‘hate America’ or be ‘proud of America’ based on one comment, taken out of context, I have to question not only your judgment but your over all intelligence. The only showcase for that type of thinking or reasoning is the Jerry Springer show. I challenge Publius and Joel to try thinking a little more deeply and to not be so quick to make snap, asinine judgments based solely on your political affiliation.
Publius, I would further like to challenge you to post your opinions under your own name and identity. One of my pet peeves is people who post strongly worded comments and then hide behind a shroud of secrecy so as not to have to take responsibility for what they say or think. Or perhaps you don’t believe strongly enough to attach your opinions to your identity?
Kind of cowardly don’t you think? You place yourself in a position to criticize but to not be criticized.
I’m voting for Obama because he’s black. It’s about time this country had a black president. We’ve given plenty of white men the opportunity to ruin the country (and many have) lets give a black guy a crack at it:) lol.
If I know you, priscilla… you probably just want to find an indeological category to stuff Publis in so you can then off-handedly discredit him/her and resort to personal attacks (this is typical of most liberals). WHY ELSE WOULD IT MATTER????
Stop turning away my readers, Priscilla… or else I’ll have you banned from my blog!
Know, you don’t know me at all, you don’t know much of anything, you live in a freakin bubble.
Why else does it matter? why don’t you think about it for longer than five seconds and then tell me why it matters.
Maybe you and Publius are both cowards, one who cant back up his opinion with his own damn face, and you, who can’t take an adverse opinion without resorting to censorship.
Forget you Joel, I’m banning myself from your blog. Continue to think like a brainwashed robot. Jerk.
Wow, did she prove my point about personal attacks or what, Publis! “Cowards, Brainwashed, Robots, Jerks…” Good thing you DIDN’T come out with your name or else she might have offended you! (fortunately, I don’t get offended by un-called-for comments like that.)
*maybe* it was tongue-in-cheek (we can only hope).
What I thought was funny was that she said that we were cowards because we couldn’t “back up” our opinions, while the only thing that I have done is provide exact quotations, cites to numerous sources and reasoned opinion. Meanwhile, the only thing she has provided is name-calling and unsubstantiated rhetoric. Good for her.
